Though I have not managed to verify the authenticity on the identity of the writer, I started a poll nevertheless.
The poll closed yesterday and from the 205 votes received, 91% of the respondents said that Preeshena's Mother should sue the Condo Management.
In today's Malay Mail, there is this report citing Preeshena's dad frustration with the police's probe on the murder, his plans to proceed with suing the Condo management as well as being slighted by the fact that Preeshena's unsolved case was not even mentioned in a television special on the year's round-up as aired recently.
Here's the full report :-
WHEN contacted yesterday, Preeshena Varshiny’s father, known only as Ravindran, told The Malay Mail that the family had moved out of Casa Mila Tower.
"We stayed for one month but the memories were too much for us. My wife is still traumatised and we cannot take it anymore,” the anguished father said.
The 40-year-old said he will continue with his plans to sue the condominium’s management.
“I approached them before my daughter was murdered to install more CCTVs but I was told that the management did not have the budget. “Now it seems they do have the budget.”
“If they had taken me seri- ously, my daughter would still be alive. The management is answerable for that.
“I feel as though my daughter had to sacrifice her life for change to be implemented.”
He also said he was hurt by a local television show —a roundup of the worst tragedies of 2007 —which was aired recently.
“The host mentioned the Nurin tragedy but there was no mention of my daughter’s murder. It is as though she mati katak ( die d in vain). There was so much at- tention in the beginning but now it’s like people no longer remember, ” he said.
The family held a Press conference on Dec 5 to express dis- pleasure with the police probe into the murder.
“Whenever people ask me about my daughter’s case, I do not know what to tell them as I have nothing to say.”
On Nov 9, four foreigners, an Indian national and three Sri Lankans renting an apartment nearby were arrested and remanded until Nov 16 under the Immigration Act.
Results of tests on 31 DNA samples taken from security guards and workers at the con- dominium did not match semen samples taken from the scene where Preeshena was believed to have been raped and sodomised.
I wouldn't know whether the poll had a bearing on Preeshena's Dad decision on proceeding with the suing plans but I must thank all visitors for participating in the poll.
Let's hope that Year 2008 would be a better year than the year we have just left behind. No more another "Nurin", no more another "Preeshena".
