Uncle comes up with Nurin Alert

Friday October 19, 2007

By LOONG MENG YEE

KUALA LUMPUR: The pain of having his young niece’s life viciously cut short has spurred Jasni Abdul Jalil to come up with a “Nurin Alert” emergency response plan.

“Talking and feeling helpless over Nurin’s death will not bring her back. But, we can use our feelings positively and do something,” said Jasni, who is the eldest brother of the victim’s father, Jazimin Abdul Jalil.

The plan will bring the authorities and community together to search for abducted children in the shortest time possible after they go missing.

The plan is modelled after the successful “Amber Alert” programme in the United States. Amber is the acronym for “America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response”. It was named after Amber Hagerman, a nine-year-old who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas, in 1996.

Jasni, a company secretary, started the nurinjazlin.blogspot.com to help search for eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin after she went missing on Aug 20.

The “Nurin Alert” response was mooted after a commentator referred to “Amber Alert” in the blog.

Within weeks, several bloggers and Jasni agreed on the urgent need to introduce a similar system here.

With the help of the like-minded bloggers, Jasni met Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil just before Hari Raya to discuss the proposed emergency response.

Jasni said Shahrizat asked them to forward a working paper on it.

He thanked fellow bloggers Nuraina A. Samad, Tembam and Nik Farez, who have become the core group working on the project.

Their work is supported by Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation’s Kamal Affandi Hashim, Protect and Save The Children director Madeline Yong and lawyer Abang Ariffin Abang Bohan.

“We hope that Nurin Alert will eventually be realised. Nurin’s death should not be in vain, and no child should be so cruelly tortured and killed again,” said Jasni.

Hi Jasni,

My name is Natalie and I'm a mother of one. I have been following the news of Nurin and although I am not related to Nurin, I can feel so much pain, hurt and anger knowing what the monster had done to such a young innocent child. I can't describe in words, how much I want the monster to be taken to justice and punished accordingly.

I must say that it has affected me in so many ways and like you said, there's nothing that we can do to bring her back, instead we should channel our feelings into doing something positive. I am totally supportive of your initiative and would very much like to be involved.

It is sad that it takes something so gruesome for this to be initiated but nevertheless, it's a start that can help support many parents alike and save the lives of many children.

Please let us know what we can do.

Warmest regards,
Natalie

Dear Jasni,

Like many out there I am very sad and angry over Nurin death and felt unsafe for the fact that the culprit is still free out there roaming the streets.

I congratulate you and friends for the setting up of "Nurin Alert" to address similar incidents in the future. Since I have more then two decades of experience in the management & operations of emergency response and search & rescue operations, I hereby volunteer myself to be of assistance to your noble efforts. Some of my works includes the formation of Malaysian Maritime Search & Rescue Centre, GM of Petroleum Industry of Malaysia Mutual Aid Group, Head of Technical Committee on the setting up of M'sian Sea Surveillance System in the Straits of Malacca. I can be reached at jaflam@ streamyx.com or Jaff Point @ blogspot.com. Wishing you all the best and success in Nurin Alert project.

Congratulations En Jasni and friends!

This progress in making Nurin Alert a reality is heartening news since we have not heard any progress in the hunt for her murderer.

Al-Fatihah to Arwah.

Looks like the crusade against sadistic beasts is going to be an uphill task.....

NST, 20th Oct 2007

GEORGE TOWN: A newborn was stuffed into a plastic bag before being flung from a high-rise building in Air Itam.
A post-mortem revealed that all the bones in the baby boy’s body were broken.

Police also found a piece of nylon cloth around the neck.

A first-year medical student, R. Vijayananthini, 21, made the gruesome discovery in the middle of a field near the Desa Mawar flats in Lintang Kampung Melayu Dua at 12.40pm, yesterday.

The fair-skinned infant, born a few hours earlier, still had his umbilical cord intact.
Northeast district deputy police chief Superintendent Gan Kong Ming said the case had been classified as murder.

The police K-9 unit was despatched to the scene but the dog lost the scent halfway through the search.

Gan urged those with information to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.

Vijayananthini said she was on her way to her aunt’s flat when she saw a black plastic bag with a leg sticking out.

“I thought it was a doll. I was horrified when I saw the umbilical cord sticking out of the bag and blood on the leg.”

kandakuDear Jasni,

I think to form Nurin alert you need financial support also.

If you don't mind, kindly provide us an account number for this fund so that anybody interested to donate, we can just bank in into this account.

This is one of the reactive action to resolve this type of case. we should have this channel so that when nuri alert activate, it will work as an emergency response team.Proper investigation to find out the root causes also have to carried out in order to prevent recurrance.

Proactive action for preventive also have to be stress out to the school children, kindergarden and most important to the parents.a safety subject to be introduced into primary syllabus. The personal safety equipment to be commerciallised,Maybe our law also to be upgraded.

Budak-budak sekolah semua kena ada ko-kurikulum untuk pertahanan diri.mungkinlah...risau lah nak membesar anak-anak banyak cabaran...
How we want to protect them, all the time...with pollution...with so much bad thing in our environment..
How to ensure the 'manusia iblis.' can be eliminated.

Paedophillia...

Kembalilah kepada Allah...
Bertaubatlah...
jangan dibuat kerja menyusahkan orang lain..buatlah kerja berfaedah...
Nikmat dunia sementara sahaja

Perhaps, the Nurin Alert as envisioned can be made better by integrating with another child tracking programme that I mooted a couple of years ago. Please go to my blog for details: http://lenggongvalley.blogspot.com

I think it takes more than just an organisation like Nurin Alert to address cases like this. Everyone plays a part... parents, children, teachers, policemen, media and so on.

I urge everyone, whether you are a businessman, a homemaker, a journalist, a student, a jobless person... please be more proactive to prevent such things from happening, not only to your child/children but others as well.

We all want to live in a safe environment.

Today, the Steering Committee of NURIN ALERT had received another feedback and support from an organization with 3000 mothers as their registered members.

www.ummikusayang.com had invited the Steering Committee to give a 20minutes talk on NURIN ALERT’s project, in-front of thousand audiences, at their event scheduled on 24th Nov. ’07 at MPSJ 3C Complex (near Sunway Pyramid). Presentation of NURIN ALERT will be held after a talk from a parenting expert, Ms Ruth Liew, who will be shared on "Social & Safety Skills: What Your Child Should Know". The talk will be from 9am - 1:30pm.

“Talking and feeling helpless over Nurin’s death will not bring her back. But, we can use our feelings positively and do something,” Jasni AJ.

We welcome any kind of comment, feedback and support to make NURIN ALERT a better ‘early warning system’ for our community. Email to: sos@nurinalert.org

Dear Aziz,

Thanks for your comments and the insight on what you had worked on a couple of years ago.

Since we are indeed going to prepare a working paper on Nurin Alert, perhaps you can let us have more details on your initiatives for possible incorporation into the paper.

Thank you

Hi jasni,

My name is Edward and i'm just a student. I have read almost every article on Nurin. I felt disgusted at the killer/abductor and also very sad for someone so innocent to leave this world like this. The killer will be punished accordingly and JUSTICE will be served. We Malaysians including students can help to cease these cases to happen ever again. All you have to do is say the word.

Yours Sincerely,
Edward

Terima kasih.

Encik Jazlin,

I will email you the papers on my child tracking system ASAP. Please be informed that I'm not in this for the money. IKhlas. Am willing to forego the fiscal factor and allow the system to be used for your purpose.
