At least one reader commented that the article I wrote on what transpired on Thursday was a lie, especially on the part that says that the family was not informed of any DNA results until we asked for it at 10.00p.m. Thursday.
Please read these paragraph that appeared in The Star yesterday :-
Jazimin was also upset that no one had informed him that the result of the DNA test was out.
“No one called me or my family,” he said, adding that he was only told by the Wangsa Maju police yesterday afternoon to go to the mortuary to view the dead girl for the second time.
He arrived at the mortuary at about 12.30pm and that was when reporters told him that the result was out.
At 10pm, Jazimin and several family members decided to go to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters where they finally got an official explanation.
Jazimin said he agreed to the second DNA test and hoped that it would be done soon.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohd, who met the family, said: “We have explained to them and I hope they understand.”
I don't think we would dare to lie on matters like this. I was there and I know what happened.
The so-called statement as quoted by Anonymous who said..."again i say....this story is a lie....in tv the father of nurin stated at the HKL at daytime.."polis kata DNA ia sama dengan kami.....tapi mayat itu bukan anak saya..." that means the police had told him as stated by HKL director...." was a statement taken out of context and not in full.
Remember I was saying that "At the mortuary, a swamp of reporters were already there and speculated that the DNA results have been released and supposedly had indicated that the blood samples taken from Jazimin and his wife matches with the DNA of the "unknown" girl."
I then continued by saying that "The Police was however still saying that the DNA results have yet to be issued and the very purpose for them calling Jazimin and his relatives was to give another opportunity for the family to reinspect the body."
It was the reporters telling Jazimin that the Police has already secured the DNA results that indicated them to be the biological parents. He was merely responding to this when asked. The longer sentence to the quoted word should have been .."mereka (reporter) kata yang polis kata DNA ia sama dengan kami.....tapi mayat itu bukan anak saya..."
"Tapi mayat itu bukan anak saya" was in reference to the body viewing and not the DNA results.
The DNA results were only furnished to Jazimin and his brothers at IPD Petaling Jaya on Thursday night at 10.00 p.m. upon our request. If we had not requested for the DNA results, such results could probably not made known to the parents perhaps till now!
Anyway, discussing this matter is now an academic matter. We had conveyed our dissappointment to the PJ OCPD when we met on Thursday night where we note that that DNA results were seem to have been made available to the press as early as Thursday morning. The DNA results were announced to the public at 5.00 p.m. during which time the parents were at the Wangsa Maju Police Station recording their statements relating to the body viewing. And the parents were kept in the dark until 10.00 p.m. The worst part is that they had had the chick of saying that the parents were in denial and there's something fishy on the part of the parents for not accepting the DNA results!
This is the lie and a manipulation of information that had tainted the image of the parents.
I would need to insist that the only reason why the parents did not accept the body as their child initially was simply based on physical view that provided no clues to the parents to convince them that the body was indeed of Nurin's.
The truth of the matter is :-
At 10.00 p.m Thursday, an appointment with the PJ OCPD was arranged upon our request.
It only at this particular event had the DNA results and the teeth comparison results conveyed to Jazimin and his brothers.
After a briefing of about 1 1/2 hour, we left the IPD office with the conclusion that further tests need to be conducted the next day.
However upon reaching home, which was about an hour to reach, Jazimin was starting to digest all the new information and was then more certain that the body was indeed of Nurin's as he was now concentrating on the similar features instead of focussing on differing features. Trust me, there are enormous differing features compared to one or two similar features.
More discussions were held at home till the wee hours, and the conclusion was that they now accepts the body to be of Nurin.
So come Friday morning, instead of proceding to undertake the various other further tests other than a second DNA test, they have decided, with the support of family members, to claim the body instead.
When we reach the mortuary on Friday morning, Jazimin was stunned to see the face of the body to be reflective of Nurin. All family members were then convinced that the body was indeed Nurin without a doubt.
The burial was that of Nurin and no one else.
May she now rest in peace.
I will touch on the other issues tomorrow morning. It has been a long day for us today and I am pretty exhausted now.
Thank you for all the condolences, all your comments will be binded as a book in memory of Nurin when I decide to close this blog when due.
Thank you again.
